This ain’t your Daddy’s Kings

Or any version of the Kings we have ever seen before. In just over a week, Geoff Petrie and the Kings front office made a dramatic overhaul on the franchise that will change the identity of what we have come to know as the Sacramento Kings. Gone are words like soft, finesse, and unathletic and they have been replaced by the adjectives of big, scary and intimidating.

Breaking Down the Dalembert for Hawes/Nocioni Deal

Last Thursday the Kings completed a trade to send Spencer Hawes and Andres Nocioni to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for center Samuel Dalembert. The trade was a surprise move by Geoff Petrie on the verge of the upcoming draft and even though the deal was reportedly done on Tuesday, not a word was mumbled about it until it was official on Thursday.

Player Draft Profile: Wesley Johnson

Hello everyone out there in the blogosphere.  I’m trying to get my bearings after rolling in from Disneyland at about 3 a.m. last evening. Apparently the Kings pulled a major trade on Thursday and shipped out disgruntled forward Andres Nocioni and their young center Spencer Hawes in exchange for a more defensive minded veteran presence in the middle in Samuel Dalembert. I love this trade for a number of reasons and will comment on it more tomorrow, but for now I want to post our first player profile on potential picks that the Kings may be looking at with the fifth overall pick in the upcoming draft.

2010 Kings Draft Preview

Kingskingdom coming to you from the Magic Kingdom down in Anaheim. My apologies for the long hiatus as I needed to concentrate on the fulltime rigors of being a teacher the last several weeks and put my basketball blog on the back burner. So, now that the class of 2010 has been released off into the real world, I can get back to work on bringing you Kings coverage on a regular basis and a little bit of rest and relaxation down at Disneyland (if you can call chasing a 2-year old and 5-year old through the park, “rest and relaxation”).

The Finals: Omri Casspi

Omri Casspi was selected by the Sacramento Kings with the 23rd overall pick in last season’s NBA draft. He was the first Israeli to play in the NBA. He was an instant hit Nationally with Jewish fans everywhere coming to Kings games to support their guy. He welcomed the spotlight and played very well this season as a rookie and gave the Kings fans hope for an even brighter future.

The Finals: Beno Udrih 2009-10

Beno Udrih entered the 2009-10 season as a pariah. A player that couldn’t be traded due to a contract that was a bit of an albatross and a man that was now out of a job with the drafting of Tyreke Evans. He would be lucky to find time in a backup role behind Kevin Martin and Evans and it didn’t look good in camp for that either as Francisco Garcia was more likely going to be the sixth man off the bench to spell the two guards. Udrih wasn’t supposed to contribute that much and was trade bait that couldn’t be traded. Instead, fate intervened and Beno had his best season as a professional. When Kevin Martin and Francisco Garcia both went down with injuries, Beno found himself in the starting lineup once again, and performed well in the role all season long. He was the Kings second most consistent player and went from a player that couldn’t be dealt without a clear spot in the rotation in camp, to a player that the Kings relied upon on a nightly basis. He capped the season off by being named the award winner for the Oscar Robertson Triple-Double Award for his contributions on and off the court this season.
